NOPD Districts

I need to note some differences in the various districts for a little clarity below when I say where I was assigned through the years. Like everything, the severity of the peril in each district has changed over the years. NOTE: I have been assigned to 7 of the 8 districts, with the one on the Westbank (4th) being the only one I never worked in. When I started the districts from worst to easiest were:

5th (by far), 6th, 7th, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 4th

Each had their own thing going on, though. The 8th was the Vieux Carre District (VCD) when I began and was much smaller, as described in that section.

Today (2024) it’s 7th (by far), 5th, 1st, 6th, 3rd, 8th, 4th, 2nd

Many of the housing projects have been torn down and rebuilt as mixed income housing. This changed the population and crime statistics of some of the districts, most notably the 6th which had FOUR projects in it when I started. The 5th always was bad and still is. The 7th is gigantic and will never be adequately policed unless someone comes up with something pretty radical as far as deployment goes. The 2nd got gentrified after Katrina and Pigeontown and Hollygrove weren’t nearly what they were in the 90’s. And Gerttown, previously the worst spot in the district, now was where our station was. There went the neighborhood.
