Manpower then and "now" (2024)

Back then, even though the brass didn’t think so, NOPD had lots of people. In CIB, the Criminal Investigations Bureau, there was a Homicide Unit, a Robbery Unit with at least 2 sergeants and 10 detectives, a Rape Unit, a Child Abuse Unit, a Juvenile Division with a lieutenant, at least 5 sergeants and a dozen or so detectives, a Burglary Unit with a whole captain, some sergeants and at least 5 detectives, a White Collar Crime Unit, an Arson Unit, an Auto Theft Unit, a Forgery Unit with a sergeant and at least 4 detectives, a Pawn Shop Unit with 2 sergeants and a few detectives and 2 data entry personnel, not to mention the HUGE, fully staffed Narcotics Section complete with their own three K9 officers with dogs.

NOPD also had a huge Community Services Division with a lieutenant, a sergeant and 8 officers, and a PALS unit with 3 officers including Eddie Compass who would become Superintendent one day.

There was an Asset Forfeiture Unit with a captain, a lieutenant, a sergeant and at least half a dozen cops.

Today (2024) we only have minimal staffing for Homicide, Sex Crimes / Child Abuse and that’s it. We have an officer or two in Auto Theft, a guy in White Collar, no Robbery, no Arson, no Burglary, no Forgery, no Pawn Shop and NO NARCOTICS UNIT AT ALL.
